Pedro Diogo Macedo
Pedro Diogo Macedo was born in Guimarães and spent his early years near his grandfather, founder of the iconic Brasão restaurant. In the 1990s, he accompanied him on trips across Portugal’s 12 restaurants, absorbing a love for the road, for cooking, and for the art of hospitality. At age 10, he moved to the Algarve with his mother, who opened a small restaurant, where Pedro worked during summers throughout his adolescence.
At 19, he enrolled in college to study Food Engineering, having initially considered Economics and Management. To help finance his studies, he held various jobs, including at Inditex, where he discovered an interest in design, organization, aesthetics, processes, and sales — skills he would later apply to his gastronomic projects.
In 2013, he met Chef Guram in the Algarve, and in 2015 moved to Lisbon to work at restaurants on Rua Augusta. In 2016, he accepted an invitation to Georgia to participate in opening the first Hilton on the Black Sea coast, overseeing front-of-house operations while Guram led the kitchen.
Subsequently, Pedro and Guram opened the Chveni restaurant in Tbilisi, transforming an old house into an innovative restaurant, and later launched a food market with over 45 international references. This was followed by Thai Thai, a contemporary Asian dining space in a former bazaar, further consolidating Pedro’s international experience.
Despite these experiences abroad, in 2024 he returned to Portugal with Guram to found Karater — a project combining family tradition, global experience, and a continuous passion for gastronomic innovation. Pedro applies in every detail the lessons of his childhood, international experience, and meticulous attention to service, creating a welcoming and characterful space.
